Happy Place

Hi friends, Firstly I’d like to apologize for being MIA these last two weeks. I am falling behind on my two post per week goal, however I have been busy rearranging my time, my mind, and place I call home. Right now I am enjoying sometime in Los Angeles. I can’t wait to move here. I hope you all have the chance to go on vacation and visit your happy places too. Don’t worry, I have more make-up and beauty posts coming soon! Love, Sam

Couch25K: Day 7

Listening to: Rumer – “Slow” I felt the burn today, and did much better than I expected! I thought a three minute jog would kill me. Well, I didn’t die, but my heart was beating out of my chest and my calves felt like they were burning in the seventh circle of the inferno. But it was a good burn, a good, sore, workout burn. Not like accidentally touching a cookie sheet fresh out of the oven, but like a large log smoking out in a campfire. I did, however, have to take a break because the bottom of my yoga pants were rubbing really uncomfortably on my calves, so I paused for a couple of seconds to roll them up. I get paid in two days, so I think I will take a trip to Target or Old Navy this week and buy some activewear. I’ve been committed to this program thusfar, and I really truly believe that I will be committed for a long, long time. I’m just not sure what to look for …

Couch25K: Day 6

Just when you think working out can’t get any better, it does 🙂 I loved today. This may have been one of my best runs thusfar! Runner’s itch = non existant! I did have to downgrade to the 5 lb dumbbells because I just could not for the life of me curl with the 10 lb ones. My arms are so weak. BUT I can do 10 consistent captain’s chairs now without taking a break! So I know I am getting somewhere with my soft core. Not to mention, I look forward to jogging and have been doing a great job keeping my posture straight and legs long. I can’t say I’m too thrilled about next week’s schedule, though. I am not sure if I can jog for three straight minutes! Two minutes, maybe, but three?! Yikes. Still, I am going to keep pushing and work through it all. The workouts just keep getting better, so I know even if I am miserable on day one I will adapt and do better than I ever …

Couch25K: Day 5

My relationship with Couch25K is starting to mirror the high school dating scene. Today was such a good work out day. I feel sore and warm and good. My muscles feel comfortably tired but relaxed, and I am so happy that I decided to brave my walk to the gym despite the fact that there was a tornado warning in the county next door. I would have regret not going, and I’m glad I didn’t let a little rain get in my way. I love the post-workout feeling. I feel accomplished, and like I did something selfish and great that benefited me. I did not have any runner’s itch today in my legs. I actually warmed up for five minutes for really the first time even by doing a brisk walk on the treadmill. It was great, and even though I got tired I felt great. I was wearing my long yoga pants so that may have contributed to it. I felt very comfortable. I guess I’m just not one who can exercise in shorts :p …

Couch25K: Day 4

Hmm…well okay today sucked. My runner’s itch was back in business, and honestly it felt worse today than it did on the first day I started jogging. It felt like thousands of mosquitos were stinging me all over, and I had to stop at least three times for minutes at a time to stop and scratch and rub. I don’t know what could have caused it, but I have a few theories. I did take a three day break from exercise due to circumstances outside of my control (I’m looking at you weight lifting guy who used the treadmill as a speaker stand). Yesterday I just used a stationary bike for about 10 minutes instead of jogging, which may have been a very good or very bad move. If the three day break is the reason why my runner’s itch came back, then I won’t take a break that long again. But if it was going to happen to me anyway, I’m glad I didn’t jog on the treadmill in front of that random guy …

The Parable of the Mexican Fisherman

This resonates with me so so much — An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied, “only a little while.” The American then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?” The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, and stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life.” The American scoffed. “I have an MBA from Harvard, and can help you,” he said. “You should spend more time fishing, and with …
